Q2. How Does Zostrix stop the pain?
A2. Zostrix works with your body's chemistry to lower your level of Substance P, the body's "pain messenger." When Substance P is reduced, so is the pain. By using Zostrix regularly, 3 to 4 times a day, capsaicin builds up, Substance P fades, and so does the pain.

Q3. What is Capsaicin -- The Active Ingredient in Zostrix?
A3. Capsaicin is the natural active ingredient in red chili peppers. It relieves the pain of arthritis and musculoskeletal disorders effectively, as well as pain associated with neuralgias. The same way that biting into a hot chili pepper incites a powerful stimulation of local sensory receptors in the mucous membranes, capsaicin, when applied, can cause a sensation of warmth.

Q4. What is the difference between PURIFIED CAPSAICIN VS. CAPSICUM AND CAPSICUM OLEORESIN?
A4. Products containing capsicum, capsicum oleoresin or capsaicin oleoresin are not the same as purified capsaicin. Capsicum and its oleoresin variants contain only small amounts of capsaicin, and they also contain noxious chemicals that work against the pain-relieving effects of purified capsaicin.
Purified Capsaicin acts specifically by depleting stores of substance P from sensory neurons and has been a successful and doctor recommended treatment for many painful conditions for years.
Capsicum Oleoresin is a synthetic version of capsaicin. There no conclusive evidence on its effectiveness compared to purified capsaicin. It may function in ways dissimilar to capsaicin, and the products containing it have a high degree of variability in terms of how effective they may be.**Ann Pharmacother. Capsaisin: identification, nomenclature, and pharmacotherapy. 1993 Mar;27(3):330-6. Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois, Chicago 60612.

Q11.How is Zostrix different from other topical pain relieving topical creams or gels?
A11. Many other topical pain relievers contain Menthol – A counter irritant that just masks foot pain by stimulating the nerves to produce a slightly uncomfortable cool sensation. These creams do not work in the same way as the active ingredient, capsaicin, in Zostrix. Capsaicin actually depletes the substance that sends pain signals to the brain, effectively reducing pain with regular use.
